Ajwain or karpooravalli rasam a South Indian soup helps to cure cold and cough. Rasam is popular in South Indian cuisine has a base of various herbs and aid’s digestion.
Rasam can be had like a soup or as an appetizer drink. It can also be served with steamed rice along with a side vegetable dish and with sambar.
The spices and herbs that I add to my rasam recipe are Ajwain leaves, betel leaves,cumin seeds, black pepper, garlic, curry leaves, coriander leaves, and tomato that help in relieving the cold and also act as digestives. It is best to have it in chilly winters or when you are suffering from cough and cold.
Ingredients:
Ajwain leaves- 4
Betel leaves- 2
Tomato- 2
Garlic - 5 (crushed)
Peppercorns- 1 tsp
Jeera - 1/2 tsp
Coriander- 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves- one spring
Dry chilli- 2
Coriander leaves
Preparation:
1. Blend the tomato using blender and keep it aside.
2. In a pester, crush the Ajwain and betel leaves and keep it ready.
3. In a pan add peppercorn, jeera , coriander, garlic, dry chilli and curry leaves dry roast and transfer it to a mixer.
4. Once cool down, add water and make a fine paste.
5. In a kadai, add coconut oil and mustard seeds, wen it splutters add curry leaves and grinded paste
6. Now add crushed Ajwain and betel leaves and tomato paste into it.
7. Add salt and coriander leaves.
8. Switch off the flame in just one boil and healthy and hot rasam is ready to serve!!
9. It soothes throat pain and cold.
