Vazhakkai varuval (Raw banana fry) is a crispy and tasty South Indian side dish especially for curd rice, Sambar sadam and moar kuzhambu..

Bananas when they are not ripe has a starch that is called as resistant starch that is very good for you. Try to include raw banana / plantain in your diet as often as you can. Here is how to make Raw Banana Varuval / fry.


Raw bananas can be very sticky when peeled and will stick to your hands, knife and even the board. To avoid this, apply oil on your hands, knife and your peeler. This helps from the bananas sticking to a great extent.


Ingredients:

Raw banana- 2 ( big size)

Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp

Groundnut oil- 3 tbsp 

Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves- 2 springs ( chopped)

Red chilli- 2

Asafoetida- 1/2 tsp

Kashmiri chilli powder- 1 tsp

Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp

Salt - 1/2 tsp

Besan flour- 2 tsp

Coriander leaves (chopped) 


Preparation:

1. Peel the bananas. Just peel the thin layer. Dice them into small pieces.

2. Add the pieces to water to avoid discolouration 

3. In a pot, Bring water to boil. Add salt, turmeric powder and diced bananas.

4. Allow it to boil for 3- 4 mins and wen it’s soft and tender strain it and keep it aside.

5. Heat oil in a non stick pan , add oil into it. Den add mustard seeds.

6. When it splutters, add curry leaves and red chilli. Add boiled bananas into it.

7. Add salt and spices and give the gud mix. Let the spices coat with the bananas well.

8. Now add the besan flour and keep the flame low , roast for 10 mins. 

9. Let all the banana pieces turns crispy..

10. Transfer it to a serving bowl nd enjoy hot and crispy raw banana fry………

11. It’s a perfect side dish for curd rice, moar kuzhambu and sambar sadam..
