SODHI RECIPE - Traditional Tirunelveli Sodhi famously called as Mappillai Sodhi is rich , flavourful coconut milk based curry.

 Tirunelveli Sodhi / Mappillai Sodhi

Ingredients:

Coconut milk - 2 cups

Coconut oil - 5 tbsp

Carrot - 1/2 cup

Beans - 1/2 cup

Potato - 1/2 cup

Drumstick - 1

Moong dal - 1/4 cup

Green chilli - 4

Curry leaves - 2 springs

Ginger - 2 pieces

Lemon -1

Turmeric powder -1 tsp

Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp

Urad dal - 1 tsp

Jeera - 1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

Preparation:

1.     Before making the gravy, we haveq1 some pre preparation to be done.

Make  thick coconut milk by adding little water and keep it aside

In a blender, make a fine paste of green chilli and ginger , keep it aside

Pressure cook moong dal and keep it ready

Boil the veggies, carrots, Beans, potatoes, Drumsticks and sauté brinjal in oil and keep it                    aside.

2.     Take iron cast or heavy bottomed kadai, add 4 tbsp coconut oil in it.

       3.     Now add mustard seeds, urad dal, jeera and roast it till the mustard turns                           golden colour.

       4.     Add shallots and curry leaves and let the shallots fry in coconut oil..

       5.     Add all the cooked veggies into it and give a gud mix .

       6.     Now add green chilli and ginger paste.

       7.     Add cooked moong dal and let it blend well with veggies

       8.     Add salt and turmeric powder into it.

       9.     Since the veggies are already cooked we just saute it in oil..

     10.     The super star of the dish…. Coconut milk, add coconut milk into it and just                       give one boil.

     11.     It is very creamy and moong dal gives thickness to the gravy

    12.     Den add curry leaves, coconut oil and lemon juice, turn off the stove.

    13.     Tirunelveli special Mappillai sodhi is ready!! Serve with rice/ Idiyappam/                            chapathi .

Tip:

      1.     Turn the stove off soon after adding lemon juice, don’t allow it to boil.

      2.     Coconut milk should be very thick. I have taken 2 cups of coconut milk from 3                    coconuts. I used first milk alone so the gravy will be rich and creamy.

      3.     You can also cook veggies in third coconut milk along with the gravy but for                      time consuming I cooked already.
